Korean dividend calculator guide: after-tax income and account tax rates
The examples below use made-up numbers, not data for any real stock. Type the same numbers into the calculator and you get the same results.
Yield and after-tax income
Yield is the yearly dividend divided by the buy price. A buy price of 50,000 won and a yearly dividend of 2,000 won gives 4.00% before tax.
A regular account withholds 15.4% dividend tax. For 100 shares, 30,800 won comes off 200,000 won a year and you keep 169,200 won.
The yield after tax is 3.38%, which is 14,100 won a month. Use today's price instead of your buy price to see the yield for a new buyer.
This app ships no dividend figures. Look the yearly dividend up in the company filing or your broker, then type it in.
Tax by account
A regular account takes 15.4% each time a dividend is paid. That is 14% income tax plus 1.4% local tax.
An ISA is tax free up to a limit and taxes the excess at 9.9% separately. The defaults are 2 million won for the standard type and 4 million won for the low-income and farmer type.
The ISA limits are under reform discussion, so you can edit them in the calculator. The 4 million figure was confirmed through a search summary, not the statute text.
Pension savings and IRP pay no tax when dividends arrive. When you draw a pension, 5.5%, 4.4% or 3.3% applies by age.
Above 20 million won of financial income a year, comprehensive taxation may apply. The calculator does not compute it and only warns you.
Capital for a monthly goal
To get 1 million won a month after tax in a regular account, you need 14,184,397 won of yearly dividends before tax. That is 12 million divided by 0.846.
At an expected yield of 4%, the capital needed is 354,609,929 won. At 3% the capital needed rises sharply.
Yields change every year. Try several values and look at the range instead of trusting one number.
Reinvestment table
Start with 10,000,000 won, a 4% yield, 0% price growth, no added money and a regular account for 10 years. The value ends at 13,948,686 won.
Dividends after tax add up to 3,948,686 won over those years. This assumes each dividend is reinvested at once.
In real life prices move on the ex-dividend date and dividends change. This table is simplified and promises no result.
The ISA limit is applied to cumulative dividends as a simplification. For a pension account, the tax at payout is only a rough figure.
Sources and check date
The table under the calculator lists each rate and limit with its source and check date. The check date is 9 October 2026.
Laws can change. If a value in the table is out of date, edit the ISA limit in the calculator and check the rest on the tax office site.
This is a reference calculation, not tax advice. Your real tax depends on your trades and situation.
